Yearbook advisers have the option to include text on the spine of their yearbook. Common choices include the yearbook title, school name, or a memorable slogan.
Open your cover in Creator Studio.
In the left-hand column, click on the “Spine Text” tab to access the spine text editor.
Use the available options to enter and format your spine text.
Spine text is only available for hardcover books and softcover books with at least 70 pages. This is because the spine needs to be wide enough to accommodate the text.
We recommend waiting until you've finalized the number of pages in your book before adding spine text, as the width of the spine will adjust based on the total page count.
You can choose to place your text:
Centered on the spine
At the top and bottom of the spine
You’ll find this layout setting to the left of the cover in the spine text editor.
In the “Type Spine Text” field, enter the text you’d like to appear on the yearbook’s spine.
Customizing Your Spine Text
You can personalize your spine text using a variety of font options available in the font selector. Please note that not all fonts will be activated—only those that ensure proper alignment and readability on the spine.
After selecting your font, you can further customize the appearance by adjusting:
Font size
Font color
Text style (bold, italic, underline)
These options help you create a clean and professional-looking spine that fits your yearbook's design.
In addition to the standard type treatments, you may also choose to display your spine text vertically by clicking the text direction button.
If the font you have chosen is not centered on the spine, you can nudge the spine text left to right to get the centering just right by clicking the left/right arrows (this tool is only available on projects that were created after March 4th 2021)
Enhancing Visibility with a Background Color
To help your spine text stand out—especially against a busy or colorful cover—consider adding a background color behind the text.
To do this, simply check the “Show Background Color” box. This will apply a solid color behind your spine text, improving contrast and readability.
