Editing a Caption Box

The caption tools allow you to edit the font style, size, color, alignment and text formatting just as in a word processor. You can highlight a portion of the text and change its formatting and color without affecting the entire text in the box.

To resize a caption box, simply click and drag one of the handles, as depicted below.

To rotate a caption box click and drag the handle located at the top

In the "Edit Text" panel found to the left, you can delete a text box, lock a text box, adjust coordinates, enable/disable background color, change background color, change background color opacity, add shadow effect, add stroke affect, adjust text spacing, send to back, send backward one layer, send forward one layer, and send to front.

Coordinates: If you need to adjust the positioning of a text box with more precision or you want to use the same position from another page, you can manually adjust the coordinates by clicking on the "Coordinates" drop down menu. From here you can adjust the x and y axis coordinates as well as the width. You also have the option to adjust the degree at which a text box is rotated.

Background Color: You can enable/disable the background color of your text box by clicking the "Background Color" drop down menu. Then you can check/uncheck the checkbox to enable/disable background color. If enabled, you can change the color by choosing a color from our color palette or using the eye dropper tool to match a color that is already on your page.  You can also change the opacity of the background color by using the slider.

Shadows: You can enable drop shadows by clicking on a text box and clicking the "Show Shadow" checkbox in the left panel. Once enabled, you will be able to adjust various attributes of the drop shadow. You can adjust the shadow color, opacity (transparency), blur, x-offset, and y-offset. You will also be given the option to apply your drop shadow to all captions on the current page or all captions in the current section.

Stroke: You can enable text stroke by clicking on a text box and clicking the "Show Text Stroke" checkbox in the left panel. Once enabled, you will be able to adjust various attributes of the text stroke. You can adjust the color and thickness of the stroke.

Text Spacing: You can access text spacing features by clicking the "Text Spacing" drop down menu in the left panel. Once the menu is expanded, you will be able to adjust various text spacing features.

  • Character spacing (aka tracking) - This allows you to adjust the amount of space between each character.
  • Line Height (aka leading) - This allows you to adjust the amount of space in between two lines of text (you must have more than 1 line of text to use this feature).
  • Stretch Width - This allows you to adjust the width of the text without affecting the spacing between characters.
  • Stretch Height - This allows you to adjust the height of the text.
